Kevin Matheson head shotKevin Matheson has been concertmaster of the Renaissance Music Academy Chamber Orchestra since its inception in 2001. As frequent soloist with the orchestra he has performed numerous concerts in the southeastern United States and in Ireland, including performing in the prestigious West Cork Chamber Music Festival, twice for former Governor Mark Warner, and on the orchestra’s first CD. Kevin has performed as guest soloist with the Irish Sinfonietta Orchestra in New York City and as soloist in Musica Viva's "Viva Vivaldi" concerts. He has performed in the Ameropa chamber music festival in Prague and was a semifinalist in two national Young Artist competitions. As first violinist in the Saturn String Quartet and the Classic Strings Duo he has played numerous concerts including "Chamber Music in the Garden" at Villa Appalachia Winery and for the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors. He has studied with David Ehrlich, Semion Yaroshevich of the Rubin Academy of Music, Giora Schmidt, protég&eaute; of Itzhak Perlman, Gregory Ellis and Keith Pascoe of the Vanbrugh Quartet, Stefan Hersh of the Chicago String Quartet, and Amadi Hummings. He is currently a faculty member with the Renaissance Music Academy and Virginia Tech's Fine Arts Initiative.
